Backplane was an early stage startup on a mission to make it easier for teams to secure their applications on the internet.

As the sole UI/UX designer and frontend engineer on the team, it was my responsibility to ensure that our product offered a simple, easy to understand, and enjoyable experience for our users.

Style Guide

Shortly after joining Backplane, my first task was to align branding consistency across marketing, sales, and engineering. I crafted a lightweight style guide consisting of a new color palette and defined components for use in the app. Utilizing Sketch symbols, this made building future mockups more efficient and ensured the branding was consistent

Dashboard Redesign

One of the first major projects I undertook was to redesign our existing dashboard. The first phase of this initiative was to modernize the UI look and feel and bring enhancements into the user experience.

The end result was a cleaner, more modern user experience with improved information architecture. The updated layout provides clear calls to action, intuitive next steps, and straightforward status indicators, allowing users to understand system health at a glance and troubleshoot more efficiently. Additionally, I introduced new features that give end users greater control and flexibility, resulting in a more empowering and streamlined overall workflow.

Homepage Iterations

As a small startup trying to find the correct messaging and positioning, we were constantly iterating on the homepage design to better communicate our value proposition and engage potential users. Here are just a few sample iterations.

Responsive Design

Everything at Backplane is designed and built to be mobile-first. In today's busy world, everyone uses their mobile devices to conduct business. It is important that no matter what device, the user has a consistent experience with Backplane.
